across the eastern seaboard. this is a deadly storm and damage estimates are right now up to $20 billion and could rise. nearly 8 million people from the carolinas to ohio, 8 million without power. president obama held a conference call with governors and mayors in affected area after declaring several states federal disaster areas. the president canceled all campaign events for the third day. within the past few minutes we got word that the president's travel pool was told to gather at white house, which means the president is going to do something. however, we do not know what that is yet. according to our nbc news team at the white house. and governor romney also canceled rallying today, but he did attend an event in ohio. his campaign describes it as a storm relief event. >> i've had the chance to speak with some of the governors in the affected areas, and they've talked about a lot of people having hard times. i appreciate the fact that people aat dayton got up this morning and went to the grocery store and purchased things these families will need. i appreciate your generos

you're right, tamron. what president obama has done in the past week with sandy can only help him. you have 78% of the american public thinks he's done a good job. that's republicans and democrats. think he's done a good job in handling the sandy situation. and the hurricane relief efforts. and then you look at the early voting, as was just mentioned a moment ago, the president has a 35-point advantage in early voting in iowa. a 30-point advantage in ohio. i'm down in florida right now in tampa. he has an early voting advantage here in florida as well, a state that's still neck and neck. and he's making a very effective closing argument that's buoyed by the economic news that came out today. we had consumer confidence at a five-year high today, and he 158,000 jobs that were created last month according to the adp report. gm reports an increase in sales, and housing construction numbers are up. all this is good and unemployment numbers are coming out tomorrow which probably show we've had 33 consecutive months of job growth and more than 5.2 million jobs. that's all good news the p

somewhat endorsed president obama, and as you just mentioned, i mean we've seen sort of a bromance, right, between governor krit tee who has been such a supporter of romney and now barack obama. i mean he has been ee fusive in his praise of the president. what is your sense as to what effect that may have on this election? >> mitt romney has been trying for the longest time to be a bipartisan, even post-partisan leader, and mitt romney is now seeing barack obama play that role in real life. chris christie to go out of his way in praising president obama and then mayor bloomberg's endorsement. mayor bloomberg epitomizes the idea of someone beyond party labels. so for him to come off the sidelines now and cite president obama on his position on climate change and endorsing his candidacy, i don't think there are a lot of swing voters waiting around to see where the mayor of new york comes down on the race but reinforces the concept of president obama as someone who is able to cross party lines and get things down and be forward looking in terms of his agenda. so i think it just comes at a ve
